Cleaning and rejuvenating the body and mind is extremely preponderant. A rejuvenated person works with utmost enthusiasm and dedication and even enjoys doing the work. If a person is not rejuvenated, one is likely to make mistakes and not be able to concentrate properly on things. At the same time, a rejuvenated person does the work with fewer mistakes.

Panchakarma, an Ayurvedic medicine, helps to clean and rejuvenate the mind and body. The body gets detoxified, and the immune system gets strengthened by this treatment. It solves the problem of imbalances in three doshas: Vata (it controls the breathing and blood circulation), Pitta (the metabolism is governed by it), and Kapha (the immune system is supported by it, and it provides physical form). Let us discuss the Panchakarma procedure step by step.

Purva karma (also known as the preparation phase)

First, the body needs to be prepared for the treatment and this is done in two ways. Firstly, medicated oil is applied to lose the toxins. Secondly, the body is prepared for sweating to remove the toxins.

Pradhana karma (also known as the main treatment phase)

This phase has all the essential processes that need to be followed for an efficient cleaning process.

    • Vamana (therapeutic emesis): Under this, a person is forced to vomit so that the toxins can be removed from the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract, which helps to balance the Kapha dosha.
    • Virechana: Herbal laxatives are used to clean the intestines. If someone faces the problem of constipation, Virechana helps to solve that problem.
    • Basti: Under this, cleaning of the colon is done. For Vata dosha, it is quite beneficial. We call a bag a Basti. Oil or other medicated substances are used in this.
    • Nasya: If someone has a problem with sinus or headache, to clear the head and sinus, herbal oil or powder are instilled through the nostrils.
    • Raktamokshana: Under this, blood is removed but in small amounts just to remove all the toxins present in the bloodstream.

Paschat karma (also known as post-treatment care)

You need to take care of a lot of your body after taking this treatment. You need to follow a different diet that is beneficial for you at that time. One is asked to take some herbal supplements also.

Benefits of this treatment:

  • Body cleansing: By this treatment, the toxins present in the system are removed.
  • Rejuvenating: All the tissues and organs are revitalised, which ensures longevity.
  • Body balance gets restored: Holistic well-being is achieved as this treatment harmonises all the doshas.
  • Boost the immune system: The immune system is the natural defense mechanism of the body and it is strengthened by this treatment.
  • Enhance digestive fire: It helps to improve digestion and ensure that the nutrients get absorbed properly in the body.
  • Overall well-being: This treatment ensures overall well-being in all aspects whether mental, emotional or physical.
